Interview with Von from 05 May, 1999 (English Version)1) Do you spend time with the other actors participating in Earth: Final Conflict, outside of working ?
Yes, I had a dinner with David Hembler on last night. We’ve had a fabulous conversation about the show and about our shared love for the Mediterranean sea. David is a very intelligent and gifted actor whom I love the company of.
2) Did you ever have the chance to talk about the evolution of your character within the show?
Towards the end of the second season, I went to Los Angeles and I talked with Paul Gertz and Cory about what were my wishes concerning the development of Sandoval. I’m happy that Paul and I were having the same opinion about many things, especially concerning the evolution of my character and what would be the most interesting.
3) What were you like as a child ? In school ?
I was lucky and very happy. School was quite easy for me and I’ve rapidly got to grade one. I loved playing basketball, but when we arrived in Canada, everybody was taller than me so I stopped playing. I hated my last year in High School. I didn’t like the little cliques. I was popular because I played trumpet and did lots of solos. My favorite classes were Physics and Chemistry. I think I wanted to go towards scientific research.
4) Favorite hobbies ?
I’m taking flying lessons. I’ve got about ten hours of flight so far. I’m impatiently waiting my first solo flight. I’m afraid of small planes so I thought that learning to pilot one would help me overcome this fear. I studied Buddhism. I meditate. I’m taking Opera-singing lessons with a marvelous teacher who studied with Cornelius Reid. I like to play golf even if I’m not so good. I love traveling. I like foreign movies. I also love good meals and cooking.
5) Are you religious ? What are your beliefs concerning God – or the universe/life in general ?
I don’t consider myself as someone religious. I think that life is a river. It’s constantly moving and taking a cup out of it is like taking a picture; a moment frozen of the time which is a little like a distant representation of life. I think that there’s nothing absolute in life. The universe is a collective representation of our soul – understanding ourselves is understanding the universe.
6) Do you have pets ?
Yes, I have two Siamese cats, named Chiaro and Essere (in Italian, the first means ‘clear’, the second is the verb ‘to be’).
7) What has been your reaction when you knew you had got the role of Agent Sandoval and how did it change or affect your life ?
I was in the town of Cape in South Africa, when I learned the news. I thought I’d got the role of the bartender at the Flat Planet Caféé. I almost fell off my chair when I learned who I was going to play. It’s strange to be recognized in the street. I always think I know the person who’s waving hellos at me.
8) Can you describe how does it go on the set, on a filming day ?
It depends at what time I must be on the set. If it’s really soon in the morning then it’s really tough. The first thing I do on the set is put on a little make up, then have a little lunch. Then a production assistant comes to see me, asks me if I know I’ll be needing anything particular for the scene. After, I’m going to the make-up trailer. When it’s done, I go in my trailer and wait for the staff to call me. Then, we repeat the scene and the director shows to the staff how he wants it filmed. Actors walk around while the staff ready the cameras and the lights. Then we film the scene and if we’re in studio we’ve lunch. At the end of the day, I go back home and prepare for tomorrow.
9) What kind of TV shows do you like to watch ? What types of book do you read ?
I like A&E Biographies. I watch golf on TV and Oprah from time to time. I don’t like to watch the news on TV because I find it very depressing. I like to read biographies and poetry.
10) What kind of food do you prefer ?
I like all kinds of food. I don’t eat much meat or chicken but fishes and seafood. I like Italian, Chinese and Japanese food. I like Indian food too.
11) How long does it take for you to learn your script ?
I’m lucky because I can memorize things very fast, but I also forget them very rapidly. I don’t know how much time does it take me to memorize my lines.
12) Concerning the second season of Earth: Final Conflict, did you like the development of the character of Sandoval during this time ? Would you have liked to change something regarding that development ?
I can only say I’m not so happy with the second season. I’ve been told that some major changes would happen during third season.
13) Which actors are you closer to ?
That’s like asking which one of my cats I prefer…
14) Five words that could describe you…
I consider myself someone stupid, intellectual, creative, passionate, compassionate.
15) Do you go on the internet often and do you visit fan websites ?
I go online only to check my e-mails and I don’t visit fansites.
16) Can you share a little joke that happened on the set ?
Once, Robert (Liam Kincaid) was working in Da’an’s office. It was my day off but I had gone to the set for some reason still. I’d said hello to everybody and was about to leave when I saw Robert was about to do his scene. I was in a place where he was the only one who could see me. I dropped my pants and smile to him widely while he was doing his scene. He hasn’t flinched and did his scene perfectly.
17) Were you given tips concerning Sandoval’s age ? Or about the possible existence of family members, his parents etc. ?
I was never informed about his age, or about his parents… I think we’ll discover that in the later seasons.
18) Did you study to become an actor ? Did you play Shakespeare once ?
I studied in New York during a semester. I wanted to go in England and I auditioned for the R.A.D.A in London. I was too old for the course but the person who directed the auditions there liked me. They offered me to embark in the Shakespeare program but it cost a lot of money. I’d have liked to interpret a Shakespeare play.
19) What is the kind of role you would like to play ?
I don’t know. I would like to keep on working on my evolution as a person and I hope that the good role will come on its way as a result of my personal hopes.
20) Can you explain what does Sandoval tell at Boone’s funerals in the second season’s episode First of Its Kind ?
("The great Shoaling monk, Li Chang, once said 'It is a rare occasion to be born a human being.' If this is so, then William Boone is one of the rarest of the rare. For he died true to the spirit with which he lived: A sword in one hand and an olive branch in the other. We will miss him.
"The laurel is green for a season
And love is sweet for a day,
But love grows bitter with treason
And laurel outlives not May.")
I wasn’t the one to write the script, so I can’t explain.
21) If you were living alone on a desert island, which one of your character would you like to be in the company of and why ?
None of the characters that I played, because these characters are not complete persons. Their mentality is guided by strict rules defined by the script-writers. My life isn’t guided by any rule so there’s no comparison. And most of the characters I played wouldn’t feel at home on a desert island.
22) What do you wish for the future development of your character ?
I hope that Sandoval will reach his epiphany then die or commit suicide.
23) How was your childhood ?
I stayed with my aunt Rene during years while my mother was working. I really liked being with her and watching her cooking. It was the passion of her life. I liked to play with my cousins also. In fact these moments are possibly the happiest ones I ever lives. I miss that terribly.
24) What have your guest roles in movies or series brought to you on the plane of experience and appreciation ?
Jack Wong (Kung Fu: The Legend Continues)
I liked Michael Sloan. He’s very loyal and generous.
Sonny Hokori (Tek War, Tek Lords, and Tek Justice)
What can I say about working with an icon. Hokori was a bigger-than-life character and would do well in comic books.
Suba Cane (La Femme Nikita)
I loved working with Jamie Paul Rock.
25) What are your projects regarding your personal life and couple ?
I would like to have children soon.
26) What do you think of the fact that Earth: Final Conflict will be produced for yet two more seasons ?
It’s always agreeable to work in this ‘industry’.
27) What do you think about Leni Parker’s possible departure from the show ?
I think that Leni is a talent artist. If she decides to leave the show, I wish her the best… It’s not easy to interpret this role, she brought a lot of life and love into the character of Da’an. But working steady on a show is difficult and I wouldn’t want her to stay against her will.
28) Von, what message would you transmit to the members of your Fan Club or to the fans of Earth: Final Conflict in general ?
I would like to thank you again very much for your support. I hope that I bring a little honesty to my character. I find that Paul (Gertz) has been doing a fantastic work during the first season. Now, Paul is back and he is surrounded by a group of gifted people who will make the show be up to the expectations of the fans. I haven’t seen the script of the third season yet, but I think it’ll be fabulous. I really appreciate your patience.

Oui, j'ai justement dîné hier soir avec David Hemblen. Nous avons eu une formidable conversation à propos de la série et de notre amour commun pour la Méditerranée. David est un acteur intelligent et talentueux dont j'apprécie beaucoup la compagnie.
2) Avez-vous jamais votre mot à dire en ce qui concerne l'évolution de votre personnage?
A la fin de la deuxième saison je me suis rendu à Los Angeles et j'ai exprimé à Paul Gertz et Cory ( le prochain producteur ) mes souhaits quand à ce que deviendra Sandoval. Je suis ravi que Paul et moi ayons le même avis sur beaucoup de choses quand il s'agit de l'évolution de mon personnage et ce qui serait le plus intéressant.
3) Comment étiez vous enfant? Et au collège?
J'étais chanceux et très heureux. Les études étaient assez faciles pour moi et je suis arrivé rapidement au "grade one". J'adorai pratiquer le basketball mais quand nous sommes partis au Canada, tout le monde était plus grand que moi donc j'ai arrêté de jouer. J'ai detesté ma dernière année de "high school". I didn’t like the little cliques. J'étais assez populaire dans la "high school" parce que je jouais de la trompette et je jouais beaucoup de solos. Ma matière favorite dans la "hight school" était la physique / chimie :-( . Je pense que je me distinais à faire une carrière dans la recherche.
4) Que faites-vous de votre temps libre ?
Je prend des lecons d'aviation. J'ai environ dix heures de conduite. J'attend avec impatience mon premier vol en solo. J'ai peur des petits avions donc j'ai pensé qu'il fallait mieux apprendre à piloter pour surmonter ma peur. J'aime aussi ma classe de poterie. J'ai étudié le boudhisme. Je médite. Je prend des le?ons de chant d'Opéra chez un professeur merveilleux qui a étudié avec Cornelius Reid. J'aime jouer au golf même si je je ne joue pas très bien. J'adore voyager. J'apprécie les films étrangers. J'adore les bons repas...J'aime aussi cuisiner.
5) Etes vous religieux ? Quels sont vos croyances a propos de Dieu et de l'univers en général ?
Je ne me considère pas comme quelqu'un de religieux. Je crois que la vie est un ruisseau. Ca bouge tout le temps et prendre une tasse de la rivière, c'est comme prendre une photo ; un moment gelé du temps qui un peu une représentation distante de la vie. Je crois qu'il n'y a rien d'absolu dans la vie. L'univers est une représentation collective de notre ame - nous comprendre c'est comprendre l'univers.
6) Avez vous des annimaux familiers ?
Oui, j'ai deux chats siamois qui s'appellent Chiaro et Essere ( italien pour clair et le verbe être ). Ce sont des chats de type Lilac and Blue point.
7) Quelle a été votre réaction quand vous avez su que vous aviez le r?le de l'Agent Sandoval et comment cela a-t-il a changé/affecté votre vie ?
J'étais à l'époque dans la ville de Cape en Afrique du Sud quand j'ai appris la nouvelle. J'ai cru que j'avais eu le r?le du serveur dans le Flat Planet Café. J'ai failli tomber à la renverse quand j'ai appris qui j'allait interpréter. C'est étrange d'être reconnu dans le rue. je crois toujours que je connais la personne qui me salue.
8) Pouvez vous nous décrire comme se passe une journée sur la série ?
Ca dépend en fonction de l'heure à laquelle je dois me rendre sur la plateau. Si c'est vraiment très t?t dans la matinée alors c'est réellement difficile. La première chose que je fais sur le plateau est de me maquiller légérement. Puis, généralement, je prend une petite collation. Puis un assistant de production vient pour voir si je n'ai besoin de rien (pour la scène). Après je vais à la caravane du maquillage. Quand c'est fini, je vais dans ma carvane puis j'attends qu'on m'appelle. On répète ensuite la scène et le directeur montre à l'équipe comment elle doit etre tournée. Puis, les acteurs se promènent en attendant qu'ils répètent et préparent l'éclairage de la scène. Puis on tourne la scène et si on est en studio, on déjeune aussi. A la fin de la journée, je rentre chez moi et je me prépare pour le lendemain.
9) Quel genre de programme tv regardez-vous ? Quel type de livre lisez-vous ?
J'aime les " A&E’s Biography ". Je regarde les programmes de Golf à la télé. Je regarde aussi "Oprah" de temps en temps. Je n'aime pas regarder les JT ou les informations à la télé car je trouve ?a trop déprimant. J'aime lire des biographies ainsi que de la poésie.
10) Quelle type de nourriture aimez-vous ?
J'aime tous les types de nourriture. Je ne mange pas de viande rouge ou de poulet mais des poissons et autres produits de la mer (seafood). J'aime la nourriture italienne, japonaise et chinoise. J'apprécie aussi la nouriture indienne.
11) Combien de temps vous faut-il pour mémoriser un script ?
Je suis chanceux car je peux mémoriser des choses très rapidement mais je les oublie aussi vite!! Je ne sais pas du tout combien de temps il me faut pour mémoriser un script J'oublie.
12) Si on regarde la saison 2 de Earth: Final Conflict avez vous aimez comment le personnage de Sandoval a été développé durant cette période? Auriez vous aimé changé quelque chose quant à son évolution?
Je peux seulement dire que je n'ai pas été completement heureux avec la saison 2. Je me suis laissé dire que des grands changements allaient arriver pour la troisième saison.
13) De quel acteurs êtes-vous le plus proche ?
C'est comme demander quel chat je préfère....
14) Quels sont les cinq adjectifs qui pourraient vous décrire ?
Je me considère comme quelqu'un de :
• stupide
• intellectuel
• créatif
• passionné
• compatissant
15) Allez-vous souvent sur internet et visitez vous des sites de fans ?
Je vais "online" seulement pour vérifier mes e-mails. Je ne visites pas les sites de fans.
16) Pouvez-vous partager avec nous une "blague" qui s'est déroulé sur le plateau ?
C'était quand Robert (Liam) était en train de travailler dans le bureau de Da'an. C'était mon jour de relache mais j'avais du aller au studio pour une raison quelconque. J'avais salué tout le monde et j'allais quitter le plateau quand j'ai remarqué que Robert allait interpréter sa scène et j'étais dans un endroit où lui seul pouvait me voir. J'ai décidé de baisser mon pantalon (pour le destabiliser ) et je lui ai souris pendant qu'il faisait sa scène. Il n'a pas bougé et n'a pas raté son texte. Je sais qu'il me rendra la pareille un jour.
17) Vous a t'on déjà donné des indications ou des indices comme l'age de Sandoval? Et à propos de l'existence possible d'autres relations telles que ses parents, etc?
L'age est une donnée qui n'est jamais apparue de même que ses proches.....j'ai l'impression que l'on découvrira ?a dans les prochaines saisons
18) Avez-vous étudié pour devenir un acteur ? Avez-vous déjà fait du Shakespeare ?
J'ai étudié à New York pendant un semestre. Je voulais étudier en Angleterre et j'ai auditionné pour le R.A.D.A à Londres. J'étais trop vieux pour ce cours mais la personne qui m'a audionnée m'a bien apprécié. Ils m'ont proposé de suivre le programme Shakespeare que j'aurais adoré suivre mais il était vraiment très cher. J'aimerais interpréter une pièce de Shakespeare.

19) Quel est le r?le que vous rêveriez d'interpréter?
Je ne le sais pas encore. J'aimerai continuer à travailler sur mon évolution en tant que personne et j'espère que le bon r?le viendra tout seul comme le résultat de ma recherche de moi-même.
20) Pouvez-vous nous éclairer sur ce que dit Sandoval lors de l'enterrement de Boone dans l'épisode First of Its Kind?

Ce n'est pas moi qui ai écrit le texte, je ne peux pas vous l'expliquer.
21) Si vous aviez échoué sur une ?le deserte et que vous deviez rester avec un de vos anciens personnages, lequel serait-il ? Pourquoi ?
Aucun de ceux que j'ai interprété car ces personnages ne sont pas une personne complète. Leur caractère est guidé par des règles strictes et des paramètres définis par les scénaristes. Ma vie n'est pas guidé par des paramètres donc il n'y de comparaison. De plus les personnages qui j'ai interprétés ne sont seraient pas chez eux sur une ?le déserte.
23) Que souhaiteriez-vous qu'il arrive à votre personnage dans le futur ?
J'éspère que Sandoval arrivera au summun du personnage (epiphany) et puis mourra tragiquement.
24) Comment était votre enfance ?
Ma tante Rene m'a surveillée pendant des années pendant que ma mère travaillait. J'ai vraiment apprécié d'être avec elle et de la regarder préparer à manger. C'était la passion de sa vie. J'aimais aussi jouer avec mes cousins. En fait, ces moments sont probablement les plus heureux que j'ai vécus. Je lui manque terriblement.
26) Pouvez vous nous raconter ce que vous a apporté en expérience les r?les suivants et ce que vous apporte l'apparition en tant qu'acteur invité dans les séries ou dans les films?

Je pense que Leni est une actrice pleine de talents. Si elle décide de quitter la série, je lui souhaite le meilleur... Ce n'est pas facile d'interpréter ce r?le et elle a apporté de la vie et de l'amour dans le personnage de Da'an. Travailler sur une série est fatiguant et je ne voudrais pas qu'elle reste contre sa volonté.
30) Von, quel message aimeriez vous donner aux membres du fan club de Von Flores ou aux fans de EFC en général?
De nouveau, je voudrais vous remercier pour votre support. J'espère que j'apporte à l'écran un peu d'honnêteté dans mon personnage. Je trouve que Paul G. (le producteur) a fait un travail fantastique durant la première saison. Maintenant, Paul est de retour et il a avec lui un groupe de personnes talentueuses qui apportent à l'écran la qualité attendue par les fans. Je n'ai pas encore vu les scripts de la 3eme saison mais je pense qu'elle va être formidable. J'apprécie réellement votre patience.

这取决于我应该什么时候去片场。如果早上真的要很早的话那真是非常紧张。在剧组我所做的第一件事是稍微化一点装，然后吃一点午餐。接下来一位助理制片人来看我，问我在拍场景的时候是否需要任何的特殊道具。然后我去化装拖车。完了之后，我回到自己的休息室等待工作人员来叫我。接下来，我们重复排演场景，同时导演也告诉工作人员他所想要的拍摄方式和效果。演员们在工作人员准备摄像机和调整灯光的时候在附近走走。然后我们就拍摄那个场景。之后，如果在摄影棚里我们就吃午餐。一天完了，我就回家，为明天做好准备。
9）你喜欢看哪种类型的电视剧？ 你读哪些类型的书呢？
我喜欢A&E系列的传记。我在电视上看高尔夫，有时也看歌剧。我不喜欢看电视新闻因为我觉得它们让人沮丧。我喜欢阅读传记和诗歌。

我希望Sandoval能够醒悟过来，然后死掉或者自杀。
23) 你的童年如何？
我妈妈工作的那几年我和我的姨妈Rene待在一起。我真的很喜欢和她待在一起，看她做饭。那是她生活的激情。我也喜欢和表哥在一起玩。事实上，这些时光可能是我曾经有过的最快乐的时光了。我非常非常想念它们。
